A Shower of Tastykakes is Forecasted for Bastille Day 2018 on July 14th

July 11, 2018

If you haven't made it to Bastille Day at the Eastern State Penitentiary in years past, don't miss Bastille Day 2018. After 24 years of entertaining crowds and celebrating the rise of French democracy, the signature celebration in Philly will officially close up shop. So make sure you mark your calendar for your final chance to experience the entertainment on Saturday, July 14th.

Once again, The Bearded Ladies are headlining the show. They recreate the French Revolution with a tongue-in-cheek approach, all dressed up in drag and serving up the story cabaret-style. Their uproarious reenactment culminates in the most-anticipated event of the day: when Marie Antoinette shouts "Let them eat Tastykake!" and organizers toss thousands of Krimpets to the awaiting crowds from the penitentiary towers. Guest can tour the penitentiary from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., enjoy the cabaret performance at 5:30 p.m., then head to restaurants around Fairmount for French-themed eats and drinks at 6:30 p.m.
