Breathe Free at Bartram’s Gardens, a Short Way from Rittenhouse Claridge in Philadelphia

September 18, 2014

Bartram's Gardens offers visitors more than 100 acres of gardens, historic buildings, and sprawling land. Just a quick drive from Rittenhouse Claridge, this beautiful space was once privately owned by renowned botanist John Bartram, who populated the gardens with an incredible and varied collection of plants native to North America. Making its home right by the Schuylkill Riverfront, this sweeping garden began nearly 300 years ago, and has been offering peace and beauty to visitors ever since it became a National Historic Landmark.

Perfect for a weekend visit with family or an outdoor romantic excursion, Bartram's Gardens is teeming with flora, including shrubs, herbs, flowers, and some of the oldest trees in all of the United States. When you're tired of walking, grab a seat at one of the picnic tables and let the kids run around the playground. Bartram's Gardens is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday all year round.
