Kick off the spring season with a visit to Frankford Hall, a modern German biergarten concept restaurant from restaurateur Stephen Starr. Located in the city's Fishtown neighborhood, just a short drive from Rittenhouse Claridge, Frankford Hall boasts a full bar indoors, complete with ping pong and board games. However, the restaurant's outdoor space is what really makes this place stand out. Picnic tables line a graveled courtyard, which is heated by gas heaters and fire pits.
After you claim a picnic table, head to the outdoor food counter to place your order. Food selections include brats, burgers (including a veggie burger), plus sides like potato pancakes, red cabbage, fries, and sauerkraut. The giant soft pretzel is one of the menu's most popular offerings, best accompanied by one of Frankford Hall's nine beers on tap and 10 more in bottles. For dessert, go for German chocolate cupcake or the s'mores kit, which you assemble and roast yourself over the fire pits.
Frankford Hall is open 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Mondays through Fridays and noon to 2 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
