The eclectic decor at Philadelphia's El Vez draws the eye even of those simply passing by on the street. When you actually step inside, your senses are struck by the multitude of colors and textures in the upscale yet trendy Mexican restaurant—in a good way.
If you can tear your attention away from the surroundings, turn it toward the drink menu. El Vez boasts some of the sweetest cocktails in the city, including its signature margaritas (try the frozen blood orange creation) and the Zapata, a blend of vodka, cranberry juice, and strawberry puree surrounded by a sugar-dusted rim.
When it comes to food, regulars say El Vez's offerings are equally as impressive. Start off with one of the guacamoles—there are six to choose from—or some chips and salsa. Then move on to the main course, perhaps the char-grilled beef tacos, black bean enchiladas, or mahi-mahi tacos smothered with chipotle pepper remoulade.
