Material Culture: 60,000 Square Feet of Global Home Decor Near Rittenhouse Claridge in Philadelphia

February 20, 2014

Material Culture is a hidden gem for home decor in Philadelphia's East Falls neighborhood, just a short drive or Septa ride away from Rittenhouse Claridge. Measuring in at 60,000 square feet, this retail store-meets-auction house is home to globally-sourced antiques, crafts, furnishings, artwork, and architectural elements, most of which are sourced from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Appraisal and interior design services are offered here, too, and discounts are sometimes given on purchases of multiple items.

Because you'll likely work up an appetite browsing this massive showroom, Material Culture hosts an in-store cafe. Serving lunch seven days a week, the cafe is a good place to refuel with hearty soups and sandwiches, many of which are vegetarian. Coffee and cold drinks are also offered.

Doubling as an event venue for weddings and other special events, Material Culture is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
