Spread Bagelry: Enjoy House-Made Spreads on Wood-Fired Bagels

May 9, 2016

If you've never eaten—or even heard of—a Montreal-style bagel, it's time to pay a visit to Spread Bagelry in Philadelphia. The shop doles out hand-rolled bagels that are boiled in a honey-laced water, then baked in a customized brick oven fired by burning wood. The result is a fresh, inventive bagel made in true Montreal style.

The bagels alone aren't the only reason people stop by Spread, though. True to its name, the bagel cafe also features handcrafted spreads. The cream cheese, jams, and fresh fruits and veggies that go into the spreads are all from local Amish farms, but the spreads themselves are made in-house. So order your fresh bagel smothered with Plain Amish Farm Cheese or the more decadent Spring Onion Scallion Cream Cheese; try the Peanut Butter Creme & Amish Jam, or order a wood-fired sandwich topped with any of the specialty spreads.
